Kastell Oslavice
The original fortress is mentioned in the late 14th century.
After several renovations the fortress gained appearance
of a Renaissance stately home of a castellated type. It is
a four-wing one-storey square building with a courtyard
in the middle, from whose corners four round towers
stand. The stately home is one of the few buildings in our
country, which is inspired by a type of an Italian castel.
Therefore the stately home is a certain rarity within the
Highlands, and even the Czech Republic. The stately
home is open on request.
Schloss also eine Rarität. Das
Schloss ist auf Verlangen zugänglich.
We can see the remains of a medieval small castle
(foundations of prism towers). The castle could arise
sometime in the 13th century or the early 14th
century and disappeared before the year 1355, when
the village Oslavice became a part of the Mostiště
dominion. In addition to the castle, there used to be
also a court in Oslavice, mentioned in the year 1360.
The castle originated long before the first half of the
14th century. The most often mentioned owners
were the Teutonic Knights and then brothers
Bohuněk of Rohy and Ješek Rohovec. Destruction
of the castle is attributed to the Hussite wars. In
the past it served as a fortified watchtower with
a protective moat. The moat is still recognizable.
The castle is situated on a low promontory at a bend of
the river Oslava. It is separated from the forecastle by
about 3 metres deep moat. The preserved remains of the
castle are the northern perimeter walls, gates, southern
perimeter walls and small remnants of the walls of the
palace.

The original Romanesque castle is mentioned in the
year 1236. Oldest parts of the castle are the palace on
a rock with a small courtyard and the castle fortifications.
In the 15th–16th century the castle was rebuilt in the
Renaissance style. The castle is privately owned by the
Podstatzký-Lichtenstein family. The building houses the
Museum Velké Meziříčí whose collections you can visit.
There is a park around the castle.
Burgbefestigung. In den 15.–16. Jh. wurde die Burg zu
einem Renaissanceschloss umgebaut und im 18. Jh.
nach einem Brand barock herrichtet. Das Schloss ist im
privaten Besitz von der Familie Podstatzky-Liechtenstein.
Im Gebäude befindet sich das Museum Velké Meziříčí,
dessen Räume mit Sammlungen können Sie besuchen.
Rundum das Schloss gibt es einen Schlosspark.
