New synagogue
The new synagogue was built in the Neo-Gothic style and
designed by the Viennese architect Augustin Prokop in
1868–1870 on the site of two Christian homes outside the
boundaries of the former Jewish ghetto. The windows are
ornamented with colored, translucent glass bearing Stars of
David, and passages of Hebrew scripture are inscribed in two
mortared bands above the entrance. The synagogue served as
a house of worship until 1940, when it was damaged by Nazi
vandals. From 1943 it was used as a warehouse, and since the
1990s it has been under lease to the Jewish community for
commercial purposes.
Neue Synagoge
Neue Synagoge wurde im neugotischen Stil nach dem Projekt
des Wiener Architekten Augustin Prokop in den
Jahren 1868–1870 an Stelle zweier christlicher
Häuser schon hinter der Grenze des jüdischen
Ghettos erbaut. Die Fenster wurdenmit den
bunten Vitragen geschmückt mit dem
Symbol des Davidsternes und in zwei
verputzten Streifen über dem Eingang
gab es die hebräischen Zitate aus der
Bibel. Die Synagoge diente bis 1940,
wann von nazistischen Vandale
beschädigt wurde. Seit 1943 wurde
sie als Lager ausgenutzt, seit
90.erJahren des 20. Jh.s wird von der
Judengemeinde zu kommerziellen
Zwecken genutzt.
Old Synagogue
The synagogue was constructed
in the Gothic-Renaissance style
toward the end of the 17th
century. One’s eyes are drawn
to the Baroque-Classicist stone
portal, perhaps from the second
half of the 18th century, with
a wrought iron door on which
a Hebrew inscription dates from
1812. In the middle of the 19th century
the Jewish community numbered over
1,100 inhabitants, a number too high for
theoldsynagoguetoaccommodate,andthus
a new one was built. When the new synagogue
opened, the old one became a warehouse. It served
as a gallery from 1996 to 2011..
Alte Synagoge
Die Alte Synagoge aus dem Ende des
17. Jh. wurde im gotisch-Renaissance-
Stil gebaut. Unsere Aufmerksamkeit
fesselt
das
barock-klassizistische
steinerne Portal, wahrscheinlich aus
der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jh.s., mit der
Schmiedetür. Die hebräische Innschrift
datiert sie im Jahr 1812. In der Hälfte
des 19. Jh.s. hatte die Judengemeinde
über 1100 Bewohner und die alte
Synagoge konnte nicht so viel Gläubige
aufnehmen, deshalb wurde die neue gebaut.
In Jahren 1996 – 2011 diente sie als eine
Galerie.
